Anxiety & Stress
Feeling overwhelmed, on edge, or unable to switch off? You don't have to keep feeling this way. Solution Focused Hypnotherapy can help you find calm — without digging up the past.
You're not alone
Anxiety and stress are the most common reasons people come to see me. They can show up in many different ways — and often, you've been managing them for so long that it starts to feel normal. It doesn't have to be.
Whether your anxiety is constant background noise or arrives in overwhelming waves, Solution Focused Hypnotherapy can help you feel calmer, clearer, and more in control of your daily life.

Understanding anxiety
One of the first things I do in our sessions is explain exactly what's happening in your brain when you feel anxious. Most people find this genuinely reassuring — because it shows that anxiety isn't a character flaw or a sign of weakness. It's your brain doing its job, just a little too enthusiastically.
We all have a primitive part of the brain that's wired to protect us from danger. When life becomes stressful or overwhelming, this threat-detection system can become overactive — scanning constantly for problems, flooding the body with tension, and making it very hard to think clearly or feel at ease.
This is why you can know, rationally, that there's nothing to worry about — yet still feel anxious. The rational, thinking part of the brain and the primitive, emotional part aren't always working together. Anxiety tends to happen when the primitive brain takes over.
"I came to hypnotherapy after struggling with anxiety and OCD myself for many years. I know first-hand what it feels like to be trapped in a loop of worry you can't switch off, to feel exhausted by your own mind. That experience is part of why I trained as a therapist — and why I approach every client with genuine understanding, not just clinical knowledge."
— Vikki, First Step Therapy
The brain can change
The encouraging thing is that the brain is remarkably adaptable. SFH works with your brain's natural ability to form new patterns — helping to lower your anxiety baseline so that you respond to life more calmly and feel genuinely more like yourself.
The approach
SFH is quite different from traditional talking therapies. There's no need to revisit difficult memories or analyse where your anxiety came from. We focus entirely on where you want to be.
Each session begins with a positive, forward-looking conversation — exploring what's been going well, what you're looking forward to, and what your life would look like with less anxiety. This isn't avoidance. It actively builds new, more positive patterns in the brain, and gradually shifts your default mental state toward calm rather than threat.
The second part of each session is a deeply relaxing guided experience. In this calm state, the primitive brain quietens and the mind becomes more open to positive change. It's completely safe — you remain aware and in control throughout — and most clients describe it as the most relaxed they've felt in years. Over time, this helps reset your body's stress response and lower your overall anxiety level.
I'll help you understand what's happening in your brain and why. Many clients find that simply understanding the neuroscience behind their anxiety — without judgement — is itself a relief. When you understand why you feel the way you do, it feels far less frightening. You'll leave each session with practical insight, not just a sense of what went wrong.
Unlike some forms of therapy, SFH doesn't require you to dig up difficult memories or revisit painful experiences. This makes it a particularly good fit for people who feel apprehensive about therapy, or who have tried other approaches and found them too difficult or slow. We start from where you are now, and move forward from there.

James came in sceptical — he'd assumed therapy meant talking through every stressful work scenario in detail. Instead, our sessions focused on what a calmer, more present version of his life looked like. We used the solution-focused conversation to help his brain build new associations with evenings and weekends, and the hypnosis element to deeply reset his stress response each week. He also listened to his relaxation audio most nights, which he said was "the first thing that's ever helped me fall back asleep."
"By session 4, James was sleeping through the night consistently for the first time in over two years. By the end of his course, he described feeling like a different person at home — calmer, more present with his family, and no longer carrying work into his evenings."
What to expect
A relaxed, no-obligation conversation where I explain how SFH works, answer your questions, and we decide together whether it's the right fit. There's no pressure.
Each session combines a solution-focused conversation with guided relaxation. Most clients notice a real difference within 2–4 sessions. Sessions are weekly to build momentum.
The changes you make in SFH are designed to stick. Most anxiety-related concerns are addressed in 6–8 sessions, leaving you with a calmer, more resilient mind long after we finish.
